Mission Statement

Woodruff Church of God’s mission is to glorify God, proclaim the Gospel, win the lost, equip believers, keep the fire of revival burning and demonstrate Christ’s love to the world.

Core Values

Obedience to God’s Word: We accept the Bible as the inspired Word of God and it must be the basis of our faith, worship and ministry. In order to please God, we must live and serve in obedience to His Word.

Prayer: We believe that prayer is essential to effective ministry. Prayer is cooperation with God in relation to His great scheme of salvation for all men. By praying as a church and as individual Christians, we acknowledge that we are depending upon God to enable us in our ministry.

Holy Spirit Direction:
We covet the infilling and anointing of the Holy Spirit in our lives individually and in the church collectively. We know that effective ministry cannot take place without the direction and enablement of God’s Spirit in the church.

People: People are our business. We accept that the primary purpose of this church is to win lost people and bring them to maturity in Christ. We believe that Jesus died to save all people regardless of their racial, social or economic standing. We are, therefore, committed to extend Christ’s love, acceptance and forgiveness to all.

Believer Mobilization According To Gifts: We are committed to bringing believers to maturity in Christ, assisting them in the discovery of their spiritual gifts and equipping them for works of ministry within the church and to the world at large for the glory of God.

Revival and Harvest: We accept the responsibility the Lord has placed upon us to be a leader in the movement of Revival. We will stay the course without regard to cost or consequences. We will not rest until we have reached every lost soul and restored everyone who has fallen away.

History of Woodruff Church of God

The first church services were held at 11 Buncombe Street, in the home of Chester Hendrix and though not yet an organized church, sincere holiness worship was the rule.

Euless Guy, a preacher, suggested that a Church of God be set in order in this community. After a particularly spiritual experience, a number of the people desired to have this established in Woodruff.

The Church of God was set in order on August 5th, 1933, with seven charter members. They were: Will Medlock, Alvin Hendrix, W. Chester Hendrix, Theresa Teague, Edna Mae Teague, Estella Teague and Mozell Teague.

Pastors have included: W.W. White, J.W. Clevenger, W. Frank Smith, Robert Johnson, O.H. Tollison, W.E. Huddeston, G.T. Wilson, H.A. Mushegan, P.H. McSwain, L.R. Patterson, E.W. Hunter, Oscar Volkman, W.J. Hodges, H.L. Hunt, Brady Dennis, Wade H. Horton, Charlie Driggers, James H. Shealy, and since 2009, Curtis D. Terry.

Having started in a mill house, then being continued in a tin store building, growth necessitated that a church building be erected. The first service was held on a Saturday night in March of 1938 in the newly constructed building.

Later, Educational space was added to accommodate the attendance in Sunday School and then a beautiful new sanctuary was built with a seating of 650 people.

The strength of the Church of God in Woodruff can be measure by the men and women that led this church in the past. God’s presence and blessings have prevailed throughout the years and is still real and manifested in our midst today.

In 2005, the church purchased 40 acres on Woodruff Road for a proposed relocation project.
