Fasting, Day 10 (Wednesday)

Home > Pastor's Blog > Fasting, Day 10 (Wednesday)

I’ve just got to share another story with you. I heard of one of our children (Elementary School) that is fasting. They are fasting sweets (really, anything with sugar). The norm when they had things at school for special occasions, was to  have fruit. This occasion, they had no fruit. “What should I do?”, they asked.  Their Mom encouraged them to do whatever they thought they wanted to. They refused to eat what was there.  They went to another place later that day and those there were eating all kinds of things. They offered this child some, but again they refused. They asked if they had anything to drink. “I have some ginger ale”, the person replied. “Does that have sugar in it?”, they asked. “Sure does. I use it to help me when my blood sugar drops”, the woman replied. Again, they refused to drink it and asked for water.

WOW! I wonder how many adults are as committed as this child. In the moments that I feel like “altering” my fast, this young person now drives me to stay true to my covenant with the Lord. What did the Word say about “a little child shall lead them”? I know that is a reference to the Lord, but isn’t it wonderful that our own children can teach us and lead us in the right way as well? Hang in there. If a child can stand firm on their agreement to fast, WE CAN TOO!!!!!
